Good morning fellow pre-law students,
As I conclude the creation of my first project in ENC 3416, I cannot help but reflect the process. For this particular project, I utilized Prezi in demonstrating how three typical legal documents, or “artifacts”, come together to create one legal case, or “network”. Specifically, I did this by providing examples of a motion, order, and subpoena, and thoroughly analyzing how each individual artifact relies on the other in order to create a strong case. I define writing as being the formal method in which information is relayed. When I envision writing, I oftentimes imagine it as an academic essay or large body of text. On the other hand, I consider composing to be a much broader aspect with more room for creativity in the production of something. I maintain that composing can solely involve creating a sound, whereas writing requires more than the mere creation of a noise. I believe this project reflects both writing and composing, as an academic designer’s statement is included, yet the presentation itself lends much more freedom in the design aspect. Instead of solely incorporating words styled into paragraphs, my presentation includes various colors, font sizes, and spaces for text to occupy. I feel that this project accurately represents an example of communication and design for the same reasons; the designer’s statement effectively communicates the reasoning behind decisions, while the Prezi incorporates various design features not typically available in a Microsoft Word document. I see the word “network” as relating to my composition of this project because not only did my project describe a network, but it also resembled one. I arranged the “client’s legal case” in the center of the project and placed all three artifacts on the sides of the legal case, so that they may surround and point to the center. This emphasized that each artifact individually contributes in creating one cohesive network. My project encourages my audience to understand that without the individual artifact’s relationships to one another, a network would not be attainable. For visualization’s sake, I have included a link to the Prezi presentation itself below. I hope that you enjoy and are informed by my presentation.
