Hello fellow pre-law students!

I have concluded my second project in ENC 3416. For this project, I was to take a certain assemblage and remediate it into some other form. I decided to take the assemblage that is the Florida State University College of Law website. My remediation, on the other hand, took the form of an infographic. Specifically, I accessed this infographic template through Canva.com. I selected what I considered to be the most important pieces of information from the FSU College of Law website. This included impressive accomplishments of the law school, location of the college, and data regarding the 2017 entering class. I then selected what I thought to be the simplest yet most descriptive image on the website, which was a picture of the front of the law school itself. These elements all came together in order to create one whole remediated infograph. I define writing as the bringing together of thoughts and ideas through words that are able to be preserved in some way. I define composing as simply the creation of thoughts and ideas. While I believe that this project is an example of both writing and composing, I believe it is more closely relates to composing. Writing was integrated into the project, as I included text that will be preserved as long as the infographic exists. On the other hand, I incorporated much more than just written words into this project. I used many different elements in order to create one final product, which resembles composing more closely in my opinion. I feel that my infographic represents effective communication because it can be circulated easily, which promotes communication among vast spaces. I also believe it represents effective design because it is visually appealing and presents the information and images in a way that is easy for viewers to grasp. I see all of our class’ key terms incorporated into my project because I found that I had to account for all elements (audience, design, exigence, material, network, genre, circulation, assemblage) when composing my remediation. Through this project, I believe we can learn that the reuse of information can be very beneficial because it allows viewers to access certain information in different and interesting modes. I also believe that this project allows us to realize that design is an integral feature in composing because it directs how we relay our information.
